University of Edinburgh staff and students are invited to come along for a feel-good social bike ride to boost your well-being, mood and fit in some fun physical exercise! Active Lives are excited to announce our 2-week Cycle and Walk event.Week 1:We will enjoy exploring the local campus area on our bikes. Taking just 60 minutes out of our day we will tick every box to achieving our overall wellbeing, physically, mentally and socially.Connecting with otherKeeping active while cyclingTaking notice of our surroundingsLearn how to cycle safely on the roadsGive back to our environment by cycling and not using the carWeek 2:We will explore the sites of our beautiful city on foot this time….In just under 60 minutes, we will take in all the sounds and the views of our fantastic city and some local landmarks along the way. Event RequirementsThis is a beginner-level cycle ride, but you must be able to safely cycle in traffic or have completed Level 1 and 2 of cycle training.All riders must show respect to other road users and follow the Highway Code.Helmets are required.If you are bringing your bike, please ensure its road safe.What to Wear and BringWear whatever you feel comfortable in, avoid loose and baggy clothing that could get caught in the chain.Please check the forecast ahead of the ride and wear appropriate clothing for the weather.Bring snacks and water for the ride – ensure you have enough food to sustain you for the whole duration of the event.Any medication you might need for the session, e.g. Asthma medication.Bring sunscreen if the weather is hot and sunny.What are the Benefits of Cycling?Cycling is a healthy, low-impact exercise that has many health, fitness, well-being and environmental benefits.
