Social Cycle

University of Edinburgh staff and students are invited to come along for a feel-good social bike ride to boost your well-being, mood and fit in some fun physical exercise!

What are the Benefits of Cycling?

Cycling is a healthy, low-impact exercise that has many health, fitness, well-being and environmental benefits. Getting some fresh air and going for a cycle can contribute to boosting your self-esteem, boosting your mood and reducing your anxiety. Having the chance to get out in nature on one of our social cycle rides can contribute to a greener planet, increase your fitness and allow you to meet other like-minded people.

Event Requirements

  • This is a beginner-level cycle ride, but you must be able to safely cycle in traffic or have completed Level 1 and 2 of cycle training.
  • All riders must show respect to other road users and follow the Highway Code.
  • Helmets are required.
  • If you are bringing your bike, please ensure its road safe.

  • Wear whatever you feel comfortable in, avoid loose and baggy clothing that could get caught in the chain.
  • Please check the forecast ahead of the ride and wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
  • Bring snacks and water for the ride – ensure you have enough food to sustain you for the whole duration of the event.
