Students who are parents or guardians

Guidance and information for students who are also a parent or guardian, of children under the age of 16, about access to Pleasance Sports Complex and Gym.

We want to ensure our whole community feels welcomed and is able to participate in activity, whilst ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our users.

Free access for children for supervised court sport activity

We welcome our community of student parents/guardians to bring their children to the Pleasance Sport Complex and Gym to participate in activity with them. 

Student parents/guardians with a Sport & Exercise gym membership can:

  • Pre-book and pay for a court sport activity, such as badminton or squash, via our online booking site (or in person at reception).
  • Bring children under 16 (up to 2 per adult) with them to participate in the booked activity free of charge 

Student parents/guardians who do not have a Sport & Exercise gym membership can:

  • Enter on a one-off-entry basis (£6.00 per adult) and pay for a court sport activity such as badminton or squash at reception. Sports Hall court bookings are only available at selected times and all bookings are subject to availability. Please check availability before visiting the Pleasance. 
  • Bring children under 16 (up to 2 per adult) with them to participate in the activity free of charge 

All children must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times whilst in the building. The responsible adult must ensure that children do not access any inappropriate areas or areas that may be designated as unsuitable for children within the facilities. They must also ensure that the experience of other members is not impacted. The responsible adult will be asked to sign in and agree to Terms and Conditions. 

Use of gyms and exercise classes 

To ensure the health, safety, welfare and wellbeing of all our members, guests and staff no-one under the age of 16 is permitted to enter our the gym spaces or participate in our exercise class programme.

Swimming

We are unable to offer access to the St Leonard's Land Swimming Pool to children during members swimming sessions.

Accessibility

There are several areas in the Pleasance that are, due to the nature of the building, not accessible to those with impaired or limited mobility. 

Changing and toilet facilities at the Pleasance

Parents/Guardians should be aware that the majority of our toilet facilities are within our communal single sex changing rooms. We do also have 2 gender neutral, accessible changing spaces, which include toilets and two further gender neutral toilets.
