The University of Edinburgh Sport & Exercise holds a Gold Office Award for Sustainability. Image This is part of an initiative run by the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Office at the University. It aims to give staff and students the opportunity to make a difference and contribute towards the institution becoming more socially responsible and sustainable. These terms encompass social, environmental and economic global challenges. Sport & Exercise has recently refreshed the Gold Office Sustainability award that we have held since 2017. Projects we have undertaken during that time include Upgrading the sensor lighting throughout Pleasance to reduce energy consumption Partnering with Playerlayer to provide their "Ecolayers" products for all sports teams kits (with old kits being donated to schools in Africa) Partnering with SIGG to make refilling drinks the norm and thus reduce the amount of single-use plastic bottles used in sports & training Arranging for the old foam floor in the gym's climbing wall to be reused by local upholsterers As a unit, we constantly push to be at the forefront of sustainable operational developments. Visit the Social Responsibility and Sustainability Office website for more information on sustainability and how your office or lab can get involved in the awards.
