FASIC Clinical Lead Image Job Title Advance Practice Sports & Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist - FASIC Clinical Lead Qualifications Chartered Physiotherapist (1986) MSc Sports Medicine (1995) Professional Memberships Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Health and Care Professions Council Clinical Interests Service lead Ankle / Knee / Hip and Groin. Clinical Lead for The Scottish Running Clinic Rugby, Football, Boxing, MMA, Judo, Wrestling and Alpine Ski-ing, Running Management of acute soft tissue injuries Long Term Injury/Post-operative rehabilitation Training and background I completed my undergraduate qualification at Leeds Metropolitan University and after gaining valuable experience within the NHS and working within Military facilities abroad. I went on to gain my Masters degree in Sports Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. Prior to joining the FASIC team, I was working as a Clinic Manager and Lead Clinician within Sports Medicine Facility in Chicago USA. Our client base consisted of elite and professional athletes from a wide array of sports. I am an educator in Rugby Injuries and Management for World Rugby and provide courses for across Scotland for the SRU. I also deliver and examine on the National Sports First Aid Courses and have developed and deliver the Sport Specific Taping Course for Fasic Since joining FASIC in 1999, I have headed up the High Performance Sport Service working with high performance athletes from all over Britain and Australia. I have worked extensively with GB Boxing and GB Judo, both home based and as a travelling member of the team. On my return to Scotland, I also started working extensively with the SRU and have been Team Physio for Scotland A 1999-2003 and more recently Scotland U21’s U20’s and U19’s During 6 Nations and World Cup Competitions. I have also been fortunate enough to be part of Team Scotland Medical team for the last four Commonwealth Games. For the last two years I have been seconded out to Hibernian Football Club as Head of Sports Medicine and Sports Science. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience within a relatively new sport and I would like to think FASIC played a small role in Hibs winning the Scottish Cup and gaining promotion back into the Premier League during the two years we were there! Personal Profile Throughout my career I have primarily worked with high performance athletes across many sports. It has always given me great pleasure to watch these individuals or teams develop and succeed to meet their goals knowing the work and sacrifices they have made to achieve this, whether this be Olympic or World medals or simply PBs . My ethos is to help empower the athlete and give them the tools and information to develop their understanding of sports injuries and the appropriate management. I am a great believer in using an injury period to make other gains and on return from injury we should be “fitter and stronger” than pre-injury. The athlete should be the centre point of every team with a support network surrounding quietly working away towards a common goal. This article was published on 2024-05-13
